Examples of a few Edinburgh and Surrounds Golf CoursesGullane
The eighteen holes of Gullane No.1 Course were established in 1884. The well-maintained greens, links grasses, numerous bunkers and sea breezes make a unique challenge for the serious golfer. The 3rd hole was recently voted one of the top 500 holes in the world by Golf Magazine (USA). The world famous view from the highest point of the Course on the 7th tee across the course and over to Edinburgh, Fife and way beyond is worth the green fee alone. With every hole having its own distinct character, the Course is both memorable and enjoyable. Gullane No.2 Course was built in 1898 and the first and last holes of the course are on the east side of the A198 road. The Course runs alongside No.1 for the first seven holes and then sweeps down to the nature reserve next to Aberlady Bay, before turning back towards the Visitors' Clubhouse. One feature of the Course is its excellent short holes, particularly the 11th with its magnificent view and tricky club selection. Gullane No.3 course is another great course but suited to the more novice Golfers. Still a good challenge. North Berwick
Like St.Andrews the West links starts and finishes in the town. A typical Scottish links course, which although not long by modern standards provides a difficult challenge. The course an out and back layout hugs the shoreline and provides wonderful views past the Bass Rock over the Firth of Forth towards Fife. Hazards include burns, large bunkers, contoured greens and stone dykes that provide old world quirkiness. One of the most famous holes is the 15th "Redan" which is probablythe most frequently copied short hole in the world Longniddry
Longniddry Golf Course is a unique combination of parkland and links on the south side of Firth of Forth. The course is not long by modern standards, but it is designed to reward the strategic player. The fairways are quite generous and the greens are fairly large, but the penalty for straying off-line can be severe. The opening holes are relatively straightforward and open to the winds of the estuary. From the 3rd green to the 11th tee there is considerable shelter in amongst the trees, but thereafter the course opens out once more. There are many good holes at Longniddry, both as a test of golf and of natural beauty. The Club is a former venue of the British Seniors and a qualifier for the Open at Muirfield. More recently the Club has hosted the Ladies Home Internationals and the Commonwealth Youths Tournament. Duddingston
Duddingston Golf Course is one of the most attractive golf courses in Scotland. It is famous for its challenging holes, winding burn, Temple on the 13th, and superb views of Arthur's seat. It is located just two miles from the city centre, one of the most central courses in Edinburgh. Kings Acre
A great new parkland development close to Edinburgh. The course is gaining great revues and the clubhouse and academy (driving range and tuition) are also very popular. We can provide great days of Golf for clients at this venue. Dalmahoy East or WestThe championship East Course has hosted many major events over the years including the Solheim Cup, The Scottish Seniors Open Championship and the PGA Championship of Scotland. Designed and built in 1927 by James Braid the East Course has changed little from the original layout. The greens are large in scale with immaculate putting surfaces. Many of the longer par 4 holes withe their intelligent use of trees and hazards, offer a serious challenge to the golfer. The short holes are well bunkered and the 15th hole in particular, known as the "Wee Wrecker", provides a tricky preamble to the treacherous par 4 sixteenth. The west course offers a different test to the more difficult original at Dalmahoy. The main differences of this newer addition to golf in Edinburgh are small greens which require pinpoint accuracy from the shorter irons in the bag and the gogar Burn. The latter winds attractively through the fairways on the west and over the closing holes creates numerous difficulties for the golfer Many MorePlus there are many more great courses within the area and we can discuss with you great courses that meet your requirements. |
